Go Abroad China - Internship in China Program


GAC internship program in China along with Chinese immersion program is a combination of Chinese studies and practical work experience gained in a domestic or international company. The program is an exciting opportunity for young professionals and students interested to gain work experience in China whilst developing their Chinese language skills.


Based on the prior work experience, professional background, student preference and availability, Go Abroad China offers a variety of work placements to suityourneeds.

Why a GAC Internship in China?

In terms of growth, China is the largest economical powerhouse in the world today and as such provides a unique opportunity for applicants to gain work experience and acquire crucial business skills. Considering the tremendous growth and sustainability of Chinese economy, a work placement in a domestic or multi-national company will help you obtain hands-on experience of Chinese work culture, business environment, thereby considerably adding value to your CV and enhancing your future prospects.


While providing individuals the opportunity to gain work experience, an internship in China also enables them to learn Chinese language and culture. Interns also have the chance to experience Chinese culture in a close way by living with a local Chinese family.


As an intern, you will not only encounter new professional opportunities and challenges, but social ones too. The time you spend in China enables you to develop new relationships both in  personal and professional spheres of life by participating in numerous networking events in China.


Students have the opportunity to work for at least 25 hours a week in local or international companies based in Beijing or Shanghai. Students have the option to request an internship placement by preference from any one of the following fields: Banking and Finance, Business Development, Education, IT, Marketing and Advertising, Non-Profit, Retail, and Travel and Tourism. Should you feel one of these fields is not the one for you. Please let us know and we will find you the right fit.


Please take into account that appropriate placements are determined by your educational and professional background, availability and Chinese language ability. Consideration is also taken by making early registration. As the placements are on 1st come 1st serve basis. Student applications for internships are evaluated by a team of professionals and recommended to various companies in China. Companies may sometimes interview students recommended by GAC prior to a final placement. At the end of the internship students will receive a reference from the onsite coordinator.


*Please note that the language training component is optional. If you think your Chinese language ability is good enough, or just want to have internship, you don’t have to attend Chinese Language Classes.

Daimler Northeast Asia Parts Trading and Services Co., Ltd. (DPTS), which was established in April 2008, is headquartered in Beijing and running three operative warehouses in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Do I need to know how to speak Chinese?
Chinese language skills are not required. Most of your Chinese colleagues will be able to speak some English. We also ensure that you have an English speaking supervisor who can act as your mentor for the duration of your internship and provide structure and support throughout your work experience.
Why couldn’t I just apply by myself like I would in my home country?

There are several advantages to our program compared to simply applying yourself:

  • We visit the Chinese companies beforehand and ensure that they are genuine companies with a suitable environment for a foreign intern.
  • We make sure that you will learn from your internship experience and not just be making coffee or photocopies.
  • We ensure that you will have an English speaking supervisor who is responsible for your work in the company.

Which company will I work for?
Go Abroad China arranges internships for both multi-national firms and Chinese companies. We match you with a company relevant to your study or previous professional experience. We discuss with all applicants about their areas of interest or expertise, and arrange a most suitable internship position with applicant’s specific requirement.
How long of the internship is better for me?

Thelength of the internship program can be chosen according to your wishes,ranging from 1 to 12 months. However, internships for one or two months arerare as companies usually prefer interns to work for a minimum of 3 months, applicants who intern for 3 months of longer tend toget the most out of their experience, and we believe 1month is too short to carest a sucessful experience for both of you and theinternship company. Prices vary according to the length of stay and can befound in our price section.

Does the internship pay a salary?

Go Abroad China offersboth paid and unpaid internships. The amount of compensation varies on acompany-to-company basis, it depends on work position, your work amount and work performance. Most host companies offer their interns a small stipend.The stipend is meant to cover day-to-day transportation expenses and possibly ameal. The stipend is typically NOT enough tocover to entire cost of living in China.

How long can I do an internship program?
Internships start from 1 month in duration to as long as 12 months.
I am interested in an industry that’s not listed in your sectors list. Can I choose a different sector?
We have over 600 partner companies in Beijing and Shanghai, the companies listed are only a small part of our partner companies, please email us to inquiry@goabroadchina.org with your preferred sector, and we will endeavor to facilitate a placement in your area of interest.
Can I extend my internship once I am in China?
Of course, this is possible.
Will it be possible for my internship to lead to permanent employment in the same company?
Some of GAC past interns have gone on to secure permanent employment in the company that they interned. GAC will help program participants to find suitable full time job after the program or university graduation.
What other costs are not included in the program fee?
In addition to your living costs, you will also need to pay for your flight tickets and visa application fee. Please ask one of our team members if you would like assistance in booking your flights or require more information about visa processing and requirements.
Will I receive documentation upon completion of my program?
Yes! Go Abroad China will provide students with a certificate of completion at the end of their program. For university program participants, each university will issue an additional certificate.
Can I arrive before my program starts?
GAC recommends that students arrive on one of the specified arrival dates for each program, which are selected so that you have a couple of days to settle into your accommodation, make new friends, and explore the local area! However, if you need to arrive before or after your program's official start date, or extend your stay after the official end of your program, this can be arranged for a small additional price.
