Peking University - Overview
Member of the C9 league of universities, Peking University is a major research oriented university in China. The university was founded in the year 1898 and was formerly known as the Imperial Capital University. Peking regularly ranks in the top two Universities in mainland China in both national and international rankings, along with Tsinghua University, also located in Beijing.
Throughout its history, Peking has distinguished itself as one of China's leading universities and has produced some of the country's most prominent leaders. Renowned for its teaching and research centres, over the past century more than 400 Peking University alumni have gone on to become the presidents of other major Chinese universities.
In a major tie-up with western universities, Peking University signed an agreement with Cornell University which requires students of the later university to spend a semester in China whilst being part of internships.
At present, Peking University has 46,074 students, among whom 4,400 are international students from 80 countries around the world studying various degree programs. In addition a few hundreds are on learning Chinese programs at Peking University annually.

Standard and Intensive Program
Standard program includes 20 academic hours a week. While the intensive course offers 30 hours. Intensive program is suitable for students seeking for fast improvement and achieving fluency in Chinese in a short term. Standard program is for those who prefer slower pace of studying and like to combine learning with leisure.
