Nanjing University - Overview


Established in the year 1902, Nanjing University is a prestigious seat of learning in China catering to local Chinese student and well as diverse international student community as well. The university is a member of prestigious China C9 league of universities, a consortium of China's top 9 universities.


Nanjing University is a national university which is directly under the ambit of  Ministry of Education in China. The university has two campuses: Gulou and Xianlin.


Nanjing University is ranked 186th overall in the 2011 QS World University Rankings with the Natural Sciences discipline ranked highest at 85th. In 1921, Nanjing University established the department of Western literature, the first of its kind in China. That led to the establishment of School of Foreign Studies, which annually hosts the largest number of students from the United States in China.


Notable past attendees include Jiang Zemin (Former President of China), Xu Boyuan (founder of the Chinese central banking system) and Kwoh-Ting Li (the father of Taiwan's Economic Miracle).

Nanjing University - Course Description:

  • Course curriculum; Intensive Reading, Spoken Chinese, Pronunciation, Listening Comprehension
  • Tuition includes books and cultural trips with your classmates
  • Professors are experienced in teaching Chinese as a second language to foreigners
  • All programs include 20 hours in the classroom per week
  • Electives are based on the proficiency level of the student: Chinese History, Business Chinese, Introduction to Chinese Characters, Mandarin Proficiency, Chinese Film, Chinese Calligraphy and Painting, Chinese Songs, HSK lessons, Taiji, Chinese Martial Arts, (all electives are dependent on Mandarin proficiency level and program selected).

Standard and Intensive Program


Standard program includes 20 academic hours a week. While the intensive course offers 30 hours. Intensive program is suitable for students seeking for fast improvement and achieving fluency in Chinese in a short term. Standard program is for those who prefer slower pace of studying and like to combine learning with leisure.
